What is the attraction?

I don't get it. Why is everyone hooked on facebook? People I work with call it facecrack. Can someone please explain what's so exciting? I'd say it's for people with no life but Just Me has a life, a busy one, so help me please?

Twitter. I'm just not getting that either. It's probably because nobody really cares what I'm doing moment to moment. I'm not even that interested in it.

  1. Well, I can't speak to Facebook 'cause I'm not interested in that either.

Twitter? Well...hmm. I've made some friends on Twitter that I probably wouldn't have met otherwise. I look at it like a bite-sized blog. You get 140 characters to say what's going on right now. It's a cross between email, IM, a blog, a text message... I dunno.

When it first came on the scene I was like, "What use is that?" Then a couple people whose blogs I read started to use it, and to link the feed from their twitter accounts to their blogs. I found I was checking back throughout the day to see what was going on. And then I found myself using it. Just tossing out random comments to the universe, and generally shocked to find people commenting back. Rather like the way I blog, really. I like it, but I don't try to get other people to join. If they want to, great! I'll follow 'em. If they think it's a waste of time, fair enough.

  2. I didn't fully understand Twitter, either, but I can see where it can be a lot of fun.

As I said before, since clearing a lot of the Facebook clutter, my Facebook time is greatly diminished and much more efficient. My computer time in general hasn't been so hot lately, probably because I haven't taken a deposition in weeks and, therefore, have little reason to be on it. My blogging has been pathetically nonexistent, too. I'll try to change that soon.

  3. Twitter does seem kinda fun to follow. But really my day to day moments are so boring even I can't take it sometimes. Here's some random tries. Let the dogs out. Let the dogs in. Calm Baseball Boy over melt down from math. Preteen hormonal breakdown in progress. Tell kids to put something away. Repeat. What's for dinner? Hey this could be a fun blog post about how boring my life is. I think I just have boring Facebook friends (no offense Just Me). Most of them are homeschooling moms who would die if I put out what's really on my mind. There is no way I want to invite EMS people on my facebook. I don't want that group in the know about anything personal about me.

  4. Maybe this is why I like FB. I have a fair amount of family on it that I rarely see. I see my SIL once a year. I haven't seen her kids or grandkids since... well, I saw her youngest son shortly after Precious Daughter was born.

I do have a fair amount of former coworkers in my list from 9-1-1 as well as 54 and a number of high-school friends. The variety makes it more interesting.
